Thank you, Angie and Al, for the wonderful June publication and for the interactive blog. Amazing work!
I recently had reprinted (with permission) the Haycock article on the history of Vancouver's school libraries and the "School Libraries as Classrooms" article to share with our Vancouver School Board Trustees as pre-reading to our annual presentation on the state of school libraries here in the city. What followed was an hour-long lively and supportive Q and A period, more engaged with the issues than we've ever seen before.
Thank you also to everyone who contributed to the articles -- Mary, Heather, Ken -- as having the concrete materials neatly offset the usual battles to give a smooth and flashy Smartboard (now affectionately called a "dumb-board") demonstration. When we couldn't make it work, Sylvia seamlessly talked about how she uses the Smartboard to promote literacy and achievement in her library. It was fun to watch her develop the inevitable Plan B on the spot, you know, the Plan you have to have when technology fails you.
